Cas Abao: choose facilities first

Cas Abao has a beach bar, restaurant, restrooms, showers and a dive shop. Its operator also describes palapas, tree shade and parking on site. This makes it a useful starting choice for a group that wants to settle in for several hours.

Grote Knip: choose a public beach day

Grote Knip is Playa Kenepa Grandi, a free public beach on Curaçao’s west coast. The Tourist Board lists swimming, snorkeling and diving among its activities. Free admission does not include every rental or service.

Pack drinking water, sun protection and the food your group needs. Choose your place after looking at the arrival route and available shade. Which works better with children?

Our planning recommendation is Cas Abao when your family depends on food, toilets and changing facilities nearby. Bring your own essentials even when choosing a serviced beach: a listed facility does not reserve a chair, shade or table for your group.

For either beach, decide around the youngest child and least-confident swimmer. Look at the actual water entry before unpacking. Keep children supervised near the water, and do not choose a beach solely from photographs. If step-free access is essential, establish the complete route from parking to your intended spot before travelling.

Snorkeling: choose the setup, then assess the water

Cas Abao has an on-site watersports operation offering equipment rental and diving activities. Grote Knip is also listed as a snorkeling destination by the Tourist Board. These describe the available setting, not a promise of visibility or a particular animal encounter.

For a simple outing, bring correctly fitting equipment, swim with a buddy and stay within your ability. Avoid standing on coral or approaching wildlife. Ask on-site staff about the conditions you find.

Car, driver or bus?

With a taxi or arranged driver, agree the complete fare, exact meeting point and return pickup before leaving. On an organized tour, ask whether each beach is a swimming stop or a brief viewpoint visit, and which charges are included.

One main beach, an optional second stop

Do not treat these as adjacent beach entrances. Put both locations into the beach-day planner with your real starting point and inspect the journey before committing.

1. Choose the beach that best meets your group’s needs.
2. Allow time to arrive, settle in, swim, eat and dry off.
3. Set the time you want to return to your accommodation.
4. Add the other beach only if the extra driving and arrival time still fit.

If Cas Abao suits everyone, there is no need to leave just to complete a second stop. If you choose Grote Knip, a well-prepared afternoon at one beach is a complete day.
