Match the stop to your family

What matters before the first swim

Start with the youngest child and the least mobile person in your group. Find out how far you must carry bags, whether there are stairs, where you can find shade and whether toilets are available. An attractive shoreline photograph cannot answer those questions.

Choose one main beach instead of planning several full unload-and-repack stops. Leave a short optional stop for the end, when you know how everyone feels.

Options worth comparing

Blue Bay is a useful candidate because the tourist board lists showers, toilets, dining and seating, alongside a sandy entry. Confirm day-pass inclusions and access before travelling.

Cas Abao offers another developed beach setting; read its facility and access notes. Mambo is worth considering when dining and shops matter to the adults too. These are planning suggestions, not an assurance of lifeguards or suitable water conditions.

Look closely at the approach

A smaller cove can require more effort. Jeremi, for example, has uneven steps according to the tourist board. Decide whether that suits a stroller, a toddler or someone who needs a steady path. “Parking available” does not mean step-free access from car to water.

A practical family checklist

• Arrange any child seat before collecting your rental car.
• Check shade and seating availability; bring sun protection and drinking water.
• Pack snacks only where the beach’s rules allow them.
• Keep a change of clothes and a bag for wet items.
• Agree which adult is supervising children around the water.
• Assess the entry and conditions on arrival, and change plans if necessary.
